Stray Holds

What is a Stray Hold?

A stray hold refers to a period of time during which an animal found as a stray is held in a shelter or animal control facility. This hold allows the shelter to give the animal's owner a chance to claim them before any further actions, such as adoption or euthanasia, are taken. The duration of a stray hold can vary depending on local regulations but commonly ranges from a few days to a couple of weeks. It's aimed at reuniting lost pets with their owners and ensuring responsible outcomes for animals in need.

Ruh Roh Rescue will hold an animal for 6-7 days before an animal is no longer in that status. Any potential owners must reach out to Ruh Roh Rescue with as much information to make sure we are uniting the correct animal to owner. If an animal does not get claimed after their stray hold they are automatically a Ruh Roh Rescue Foster and will follow all requirements before being allowed to be adopted out.
